A Day Trip to Cabo Pulmo...
| Day trips to Cabo Pulmo are available now through the end of November 2008,
as weather conditions permit for SCUBA diving and snorkeling adventures.
This back-road, Baja destination is one of the worlds best kept secrets.
The Living Coral Reef at Cabo Pulmo is home to thousands of species of marine
life. Blue Adventures organizes trips to Cabo Pulmo for groups of 4 to as
many as 20 divers for all-day diving trips. We pick-up our clients at
their respective hotels in the morning in route to Cabo Pulmo. We
travel in comfortable, brand-new Suburbans, or equivalent for the trip to
the National Park. The village of Cabo Pulmo is located one-hour north
of the International Airport at San Jose del Cabo. Travel time varies
from 2 hours out of Cabo San Lucas to 1 one hour from San Jose del Cabo.
We arrive at Cabo Pulmo before 8:30am to get out on the Ocean as early as
possible, and avoid the often-harsh afternoon winds. Pangas are
launched from from the beach and we travel 10 to 15 minutes out to the first
stretch of reef. These are typically drift dives in medium to strong
current. In the spirit of a true adventure dive, divers get ready on
the moving boat and at the right moment, back-roll simultaneously into the
rolling surface waves. The dive begins by dropping immediately to
fifty feet over the farthest tip of El Bajo reef. The current glides
divers over the rich living reef. The panga follows above and
retrieves all divers as tanks are emptied, anchorage is not allowed in the
protected National park. Once all divers have returned to the boat,
the Captain points the boat to the next dive site and tanks are changed by
your dive masters. The second tank is usually a dive at El Cantil to
thirty five feet. The canyon extends for several hundred yards and is
full of colorful life and lots of surprises. After the dive, we sit
for tacos and cold refreshments at a palapa, home-style restaurant on the
beach and relax. A two tank dive is enough to put the hardiest diver
asleep on the air-conditioned return trip. Snorkelors are welcome,
nice areas are available from the beach and by boat for excellent snorkeling
opportunities. Please remember Cabo Pulmo is a National Marine Park, knives and gloves are not
allowed. Take only pictures, leave only bubbles! |
